Unblock ABC News (Australia), nothing to install, no account

ABC News here is Australia’s ABC, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation at abc.net.au, and not the American network that shares the letters. When it will not load, the decision was made on the network you are connected to rather than at ABC. TrickyBird opens it from a browser tab: paste the address, press Launch, and the page comes up in the same tab through TrickyBird’s own address, with nothing to install and no account to create.

On most networks this is category filtering rather than anything aimed at ABC. News sits in a category a filter can switch off in a single setting, and the reason a network does that usually has nothing to do with the outlet itself. In mainland China the block is national instead: GreatFire, which tests from inside the country, records abc.net.au as blocked there, and independent measurement from OONI across June to August 2026 logged 31 measurements of the site without a successful connection among them.

A news front page is the hardest thing on a site like this to carry, and it is the first thing you would notice going wrong. ABC assembles its front page on its own servers before it reaches you, as a long river of story cards, each with a headline, a timestamp and a photograph. Through TrickyBird it arrives the way it arrives on a direct visit. A section index does the same.

How does TrickyBird open ABC News?

Your browser talks to TrickyBird, which fetches ABC and rewrites what comes back: every headline, photograph and background request in the page points at TrickyBird instead. A small script stays in the tab to catch whatever loads as you open a story or move into a section. Your browser does not connect to ABC. Its requests go to one of our own addresses, which carries ABC’s address inside it, encoded rather than spelled out.
