Unblock BBC News on a network that blocks it

How does TrickyBird open BBC?

Your browser talks to TrickyBird, and TrickyBird talks to bbc.com for you. It fetches the page, rewrites the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so every link, image, and script points back through its own address, and streams the result to your tab, where a small script keeps everything the page loads next on the same address.

BBC keeps this simple. There is no bot check to clear, and the stories are already in the HTML when TrickyBird fetches it, so the site renders on the first try, the same clean server-rendered class as Bing or old Reddit. Throughout, the BBC address stays out of your URL bar and out of your browser’s requests.

Why is BBC blocked where you are?

2 reasons cover most cases. Content filters sort the web into categories, and news or media is a category some networks simply switch off, sweeping up BBC with everything else in it. Separately, a few regions restrict BBC News at the network level, so the block travels with the country rather than the building. Reference sites go the same way on some networks, which is why Wikipedia can be unreachable on the same connection.

Either way the block sits between your browser and the site, and TrickyBird moves the conversation: the filter sees a request to TrickyBird, never a request for bbc.com to match. The mechanism is that plain, and it is scoped to reaching a public news site, nothing more.
