Unblock BBC News on a network that blocks it

Nothing gets installed on the way. That matters because a news block usually lives on equipment you cannot change, an office network or a hotel Wi-Fi, and the usual VPN fix wants software added to a device that will not take it. How does TrickyBird open BBC?

Your browser talks to TrickyBird, and TrickyBird talks to bbc.com for you. It fetches the page, rewrites the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so every link, image, and script points back through its own address, and streams the result to your tab, where a small script keeps whatever the page loads next on the same address.

BBC keeps this straightforward. The stories are in the HTML by the time TrickyBird receives it, and there is no bot check to clear, so the site renders the way it does directly, the same clean server-built class as Bing or old Reddit. Throughout, the address your browser is working from is one of ours, with the BBC one encoded inside it rather than spelled out.

Why is BBC blocked where you are?

Usually because of a category rather than a decision about the BBC. Content filters sort the web into groups, and news or media is a group some networks switch off in a single setting, sweeping up everything inside it. Separately, a few regions restrict BBC News at the network level, so the block travels with the country rather than the building. Reference sites go the same way on some networks, which is why Wikipedia can be unreachable on the same connection.
