Job board

Unblock LinkedIn and look for jobs in your browser

When your network blocks LinkedIn, paste a LinkedIn link into TrickyBird and press Launch. A job search, a company page, a public profile or a post then opens in your browser.

The usual fix is a VPN app, and a library computer or a laptop that someone else manages will not let you install one. TrickyBird is a web proxy that works as a website, so there is nothing to install.

LinkedIn shows its public pages to people who are not signed in, so you can read them through TrickyBird without a LinkedIn account.

What to expect from LinkedIn

We used LinkedIn signed out, in a desktop browser. A search for software engineer jobs in London brought up a list of jobs. The one we clicked opened on a page of its own, with the description and the job details. A company page, a public profile with its work history, a post with its comments and an article opened as well.

Is linkedin.com blocked on your network?

The check asks linkedin.com for one small file directly from your connection, not through TrickyBird, so your network can see that request like any direct visit.

One of our addresses, with the site’s encoded into it

The site loads in the tab you are already in, and this address will not always look the same, since sometimes it is only numbers.

How does TrickyBird open LinkedIn?

TrickyBird fetches each LinkedIn page for you and rewrites it, so the link you click next also opens through TrickyBird.

On a job search, the results come up as a list, and the first job opens in a panel beside it by itself. Click another and LinkedIn swaps it into that panel without loading a new page, which TrickyBird carries as well. The job’s title in the panel opens the posting on a page of its own. That page can sit on a different LinkedIn address (a job in London opened on uk.linkedin.com). It came through TrickyBird too.

Why is LinkedIn blocked on my network?

Network filters block whole categories of sites, and LinkedIn is a social network as well as a job board, so a filter aimed at social media often catches it too. Facebook and X are usually blocked along with it, and TrickyBird opens both.

Questions

How do I open LinkedIn without a VPN when my network blocks it?

Paste a LinkedIn link into TrickyBird and press Launch. TrickyBird opens LinkedIn pages inside your browser, so there is nothing to download and no administrator password to enter. A VPN app stops at that password when someone else manages the computer.

Do I need a LinkedIn account to look at jobs?

No. A job search, the postings it leads to, company pages, public profiles and posts all open through TrickyBird without signing in to LinkedIn. TrickyBird has no user accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for.

Is it legal to use TrickyBird for LinkedIn?

Reading a blocked public site through a proxy is mostly a question of the rules you are under, such as your network’s or your employer’s, rather than of the law. A block that covers a whole country is a different matter, so check the rules where you are. Use TrickyBird to read LinkedIn yourself, not to run software that collects profiles. This is general information, not legal advice.
