Unblock X (Twitter) and read your timeline without installing an app

If X (formerly Twitter) is blocked on your network, paste x.com into TrickyBird and press Launch. X opens in your desktop browser.

The usual advice is to install a VPN app, and a shared or locked‑down computer will not allow that. TrickyBird is a web proxy that works as a website, so there is nothing to install.

Signed out, the X home page only asks you to sign in or sign up, so your timeline needs your own account.

What to expect from X

We checked X in a desktop browser. The signed‑out home page showed its sign‑in buttons. We signed in to an X account through TrickyBird, and the home timeline loaded with posts.

Is x.com blocked on your network?

The check asks x.com for one small file directly from your connection, not through TrickyBird, so your network can see that request like any direct visit.

One of our addresses, with the site’s encoded into it

The site loads in the tab you are already in, and this address will not always look the same, since sometimes it is only numbers.

How does TrickyBird open X?

TrickyBird loads X for you and passes the page to your browser. X keeps loading more after the page opens, and TrickyBird carries that too.

Can you sign in to your X account through TrickyBird?

You can sign in to X through TrickyBird: in our desktop test, we signed in to an X account and the home timeline loaded. X asks for your phone number, email or username, then your password, and both steps go through TrickyBird.

After you sign in, X knows it is your account, as it would in any browser. On its own servers, TrickyBird keeps what X sets to remember you, then deletes it within about an hour of the last time any site in your session saved something there. There is no TrickyBird account to sign up for. Our privacy page has the details. Use TrickyBird only for your own X account.

Is X (Twitter) blocked in China?

X has been blocked in mainland China since June 2009, when it was still called Twitter. A test by GreatFire (a group that checks sites from inside China) found x.com blocked on 21 August 2026.

Questions

Can I use X (Twitter) without installing the app?

You can use X without the app: TrickyBird opens it inside your browser, so there is nothing to download and no administrator password to enter. That is what makes it usable on a computer someone else manages, where you cannot install X’s app or a VPN app. Paste x.com into TrickyBird, press Launch, and sign in with your X account.

Why is X (Twitter) blocked on my network?

Most network filters block whole categories of sites, and social media is a common one, so X is often blocked together with Facebook and Instagram. Both open through TrickyBird the same way. Why networks block sites explains how those filters work.

Is it legal to use TrickyBird for X?

Opening a blocked public site is usually a matter of the rules you are under rather than the law. A nationwide block, like the one in mainland China, is a different situation from a filter on one network, so check the rules where you are. This is general information, not legal advice.
