Unblock WhatsApp and link your phone as you always do

WhatsApp is out of reach on a filtered network, however good your account is. Paste web.whatsapp.com into TrickyBird and press Launch, and the messenger opens in the same browser tab through TrickyBird’s own address, with nothing to install and no TrickyBird account. One thing does not change: WhatsApp still asks you to link your own phone, a QR scan or a linking code, before a single chat appears, and that step belongs to WhatsApp’s own design rather than to anything TrickyBird gets around.

The block usually sits on a device you do not control. A managed work laptop or a locked-down school computer refuses the installer a VPN needs, and often a browser extension too, so the usual advice fails at that first step. TrickyBird is a web proxy that runs in the tab you already have open, and there is no installer for a locked-down device to refuse.

Once your phone is linked, TrickyBird handles the rest: the chat list fills, contact photos load, and the connection that brings messages in real time runs cleanly through the proxy. We linked a real account by hand on 2 August 2026 and watched it hold. WhatsApp’s name does not appear in the URL or on the page, and the requests leaving your browser go to TrickyBird.

How does TrickyBird open WhatsApp?

When you launch WhatsApp, your browser talks to TrickyBird, and TrickyBird connects to web.whatsapp.com for you. It rewrites the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so every link, image, and request runs back through its own address, and a small script stays in the tab to catch whatever loads afterwards, once your phone is linked.

WhatsApp Web holds a connection open for as long as the tab stays on screen, so a new message can arrive without you reloading the page, and TrickyBird tunnels that same connection through the proxy rather than carrying only the first page and letting everything WhatsApp loads afterwards reach the site directly. Telegram is the other messenger we carry the same way.

Do you still have to link your phone?

Yes, and TrickyBird does not change that. WhatsApp Web has a single way in: scan the QR code with the WhatsApp app already on your phone, or type the linking code shown beside it. Either way, a phone that already has your account open is what does the linking.

Telegram lets an account with no other active session sign in on a phone number and an SMS alone. WhatsApp offers no such path: there is no route, through TrickyBird or through any other browser, that skips the phone. That is WhatsApp’s own product design rather than a limit TrickyBird adds, and it holds the same way on a direct connection to web.whatsapp.com.

Where is WhatsApp blocked?

Russia blocked WhatsApp nationwide on 11 February 2026 (Reuters, BBC News, and The Straits Times all reported it at the time), cutting off a service more than 100 million people in the country had been using. Mainland China has blocked WhatsApp since September 2017, reported then by The New York Times, and GreatFire’s most recent test, on 30 June 2026, still finds the site blocked.

What works, and what does not yet, once you are linked?

Once a phone is linked, the chat list fills with real conversations rather than staying empty. The photos beside each contact load as well, so a chat list looks like a chat list instead of a column of grey circles. The connection that brings new messages in real time held for as long as we watched it, updating a conversation on screen with no manual reload. We linked a real account by hand, on our own phone, on 2 August 2026, and that is what we saw. One phone, one day; we have not repeated it since.

One thing is unresolved. Now and then a photo or a file inside a conversation does not load. We checked whether TrickyBird’s own connection was the slow leg behind it, and it was not: the proxy answered faster than a direct connection on the same test. Something else causes it, and we have not found what.

WhatsApp sees the connection arriving from TrickyBird rather than from your own address. Linking your phone is a separate matter: once it is done, WhatsApp knows which account is chatting, exactly as it would in any other browser. To run the service and curb abuse, the edge keeps a shortened form of your IP address, the destination hostname, and basic response details, for at most 48 hours, with no TrickyBird account for any of it to attach to.

Questions

Do I still have to link my phone to use WhatsApp through TrickyBird?

Yes. WhatsApp only opens once a phone is already linked to your account, by QR code or by linking code, and WhatsApp asks for that step of its own accord, not TrickyBird. TrickyBird gets you to that linking screen on a network or device that would otherwise block the page, but it does not shorten the step or offer a way around it.

Do my chats and photos really load once I am linked?

Yes. In a linked session we ran by hand on 2 August 2026, the chat list filled, the contact photos beside it loaded, and new messages kept arriving with no reload. That was one phone on one day rather than a standing guarantee, but it is what we watched happen.

Is WhatsApp blocked in Russia?

Is WhatsApp blocked in mainland China?
