How does TrickyBird open Mistral?

TrickyBird fetches each Mistral page and rewrites the links in it to point back at TrickyBird, and a small script in the tab does the same for what the chat loads while you type.

The answer is the hard part. Mistral streams the text in as the model writes it, and a proxy that waits for the whole answer delivers it as one late block. TrickyBird carries the stream through as it arrives, so the words appear on screen as Mistral sends them.

Mistral’s sign‑in page lives on a second address, v2.auth.mistral.ai, and TrickyBird opens it the same way.

What works on Mistral through TrickyBird?

Signed in, you get the assistant itself. A handoff to another address is where a proxied session can slip back onto the open network, so we watched this one from Mistral’s sign‑in page back to the chat: it stayed on TrickyBird, and the chat opened with the account name in the sidebar. Mistral asked for no captcha or sign‑in code on that account. Then we asked for the capital of France. “The capital of France is Paris” grew on screen piece by piece, and a short line about the city followed.

Mistral’s assistant launched as Le Chat, and the interface now calls itself Vibe. It is the same assistant under either name, and it is not the only one our tests cover: ChatGPT and Claude have pages of their own, and so does Hugging Face, the model and dataset library.

TrickyBird adds nothing to the machine and asks you for no account, so a locked‑down laptop opens the chat page the way it opens any other site.

TrickyBird is for reaching a public site your network blocks, and for keeping your IP address away from that site. It is not a way into an account that is not yours, and not a way past paywalls or copyright.

Is your Mistral session private through TrickyBird?

No, Mistral now asks for an account before it answers. A question typed while signed out takes you to its sign‑in page, with or without TrickyBird, so the sign‑in step comes from Mistral, not from the proxy. Once you sign in through TrickyBird, the chat answers there.

How do I sign in to Mistral through TrickyBird?

Accept Mistral’s Terms of Service first. The chat page opens with them in a dialog, and “Sign in” works only after you press “Accept and continue”. Then press “Sign in”. On Mistral’s sign‑in page, enter your email, then your password. We signed in that way, and Mistral returned us to the chat.

Is Mistral blocked in mainland China?

In mainland China, yes. Independent measurement from OONI recorded 39 anomalies across 39 measurements on chat.mistral.ai since January 2025, so it logged no successful connection in that whole period. That is a standing national block rather than an occasional outage, and a different Wi‑Fi network inside the country does not change it.

Does it work where I cannot install an app?

Yes. There is nothing to download and no admin rights to ask for, because TrickyBird is a page rather than a program. A borrowed computer, or a work laptop under someone else’s policy, opens it the way it opens any other site.
