Unblock ChatGPT and keep the replies streaming

The usual advice for a blocked ChatGPT is to install the app or a VPN, and a locked‑down laptop refuses both. TrickyBird skips that step because it is a website: paste chatgpt.com, press Go, and ChatGPT opens in the same browser tab through TrickyBird’s own address, with the replies streaming in as you chat.

ChatGPT is OpenAI’s assistant and TrickyBird is only the proxy carrying the page to your tab. You sign in to your own OpenAI account, and your messages reach ChatGPT through us rather than from your browser directly: the address your browser uses is one of ours, with the ChatGPT one encoded inside it rather than spelled out.

How does TrickyBird open ChatGPT?

TrickyBird fetches ChatGPT for you and rewrites the page so every link and script in it points back to TrickyBird’s own address. A small script in the tab then catches what the app loads afterwards, the chat itself included.

The chat is the hard part. A signed‑in conversation keeps calling back to ChatGPT the whole time you use it, and every answer arrives as a stream rather than one finished block. TrickyBird carries each of those calls and leaves the stream intact, so replies type out on screen the way they do without a proxy. Those calls go to one of our own addresses rather than to chatgpt.com, with the ChatGPT address encoded inside rather than spelled out. Claude and Mistral open the same way.

Why is ChatGPT blocked where you are?

At work, a common reason for the block is data. Whatever you type into ChatGPT goes to an outside company, and an employer that cannot see what leaves may switch the site off instead. In Cisco’s 2024 Data Privacy Benchmark (a survey of 2,600 privacy and security professionals), 27% of organizations had banned generative AI tools at least for a time. If your employer made that rule, it still applies when you use a proxy, so check it before you use ChatGPT for work.

Filters turn that decision into one setting. They sort sites into categories, and filter vendors have added one for AI tools, so ChatGPT goes off along with similar assistants. Why networks block sites covers the other usual reasons, bandwidth among them.

A managed laptop is the second lock. Its admin decides what may be installed, and the same policy that blocks installers can block browser extensions too, which rules out both the ChatGPT desktop app and a VPN. Does signing in to ChatGPT work through TrickyBird?

Yes. We signed in with a real account rather than take the login page as proof. You enter your email, OpenAI sends a login code, you type it in, and your account opens. From there new chats answered normally, long replies streamed through in full, and the proxied session behaved the same as the direct one, which is the bar we hold before calling a site working.

Can I use ChatGPT on a managed laptop where I cannot install anything?

Yes. TrickyBird runs in an ordinary browser tab, so there is no installer to run and no admin rights to ask for. ChatGPT loads through TrickyBird’s own address, and the network you are on sees a connection to TrickyBird.

Can I use ChatGPT without signing in?

Yes. ChatGPT answers questions without an OpenAI account, and that works through TrickyBird as well: in our own check, a question asked without signing in got its answer through the proxy. OpenAI decides what a signed‑out visitor can do, and TrickyBird does not change that.

Is it legal to use ChatGPT through a web proxy?

Reaching a public site through a web proxy is legal in most places. What it can break is your employer’s or your network’s own policy, so check that before you lean on it. Does signing in to my OpenAI account work?

Yes, in our own tests it does. You enter your email, type in the login code OpenAI sends you, and your account opens through the proxy. After that a signed‑in chat answered normally for us, with replies streaming in full rather than arriving as one late block.

Do answers still stream in, or do I wait for the whole reply?

They stream. ChatGPT sends each answer as a live stream, and TrickyBird carries that stream through without collecting it into one block, so replies type out on screen the same way they do without the proxy. Long answers came through in full in our tests.

Does TrickyBird record what I ask ChatGPT?

TrickyBird fetches the pages for you, and the edge log keeps a shortened form of your IP address, the hostname you connected to, and basic response details, for at most 48 hours. Your messages are not recorded, and free use needs no TrickyBird account, so there is no profile tying any of it together.
