Get SoundCloud unblocked without a VPN or a download

To unblock SoundCloud, paste a track link into TrickyBird and press Launch: it opens in the same browser tab and a free public track plays right there, with nothing to install and no account to create. A proxy that only drew the pages would be missing the point of SoundCloud, so this one carries the audio too.

Audio streaming is a favorite target for network filters: offices and ISPs alike file it under distraction and switch the whole category off. The workaround you get told about, a VPN app, needs the one permission a managed device withholds, the right to install something. A web proxy needs none of that: if the machine can open a web page, it can open TrickyBird. Private browsing is not the way around it either, since incognito only clears what your own device keeps and the filter that closed the category sits on the network.

The audio is what we checked hardest, because it is the part that usually goes missing. The track’s stream comes through the proxy while you listen, so a real song plays rather than a silent player sitting on a page that otherwise loaded fine. The home page and search open the same way, and the scope here is free, ad-supported listening. Your browser does not connect to soundcloud.com: what it asks for instead is one of our own addresses, which carries the SoundCloud address inside it, encoded rather than spelled out.

What to expect from SoundCloud

A free public track streams through TrickyBird and plays in the tab, which is what we listened to on a desktop, and the home page and search open the same way, on one of our own addresses that carries the SoundCloud one inside it, encoded rather than spelled out.

Is soundcloud.com blocked on your network?

The check asks soundcloud.com for one small file directly from your connection, not through TrickyBird, so your network can see that request like any direct visit.

One of our addresses, with the site’s encoded into it

The site loads in the tab you are already in, and this address will not always look the same, since sometimes it is only numbers.

How does TrickyBird open SoundCloud?

When you launch SoundCloud, your browser talks to TrickyBird, not to SoundCloud. TrickyBird fetches the page for you, rewrites its HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so every link and request points back through TrickyBird instead of SoundCloud’s own address, and streams the rewritten page into your tab. From then on a small script in the tab catches whatever the page loads next, the clicks, the search, the audio itself.

The audio is the interesting part. SoundCloud serves each track as a segmented stream and hands it to a detached audio element wired straight into the media buffer, rather than to an ordinary tag on the page. TrickyBird carries those segments through its own address as they play, which is why a track keeps going instead of stalling once the page has drawn.

What works and what to expect on SoundCloud?

Ordinary listening in a browser tab, on free public tracks. Reaching a site your network blocks is usually about that network’s rules rather than the law, but check your local rules and your network’s policy before you rely on it, and use your own SoundCloud account the normal way if you want one. On our side the edge keeps a shortened form of your IP address, the hostname of the site you connected to, and basic response details, kept for at most 48 hours.

Not every track is on SoundCloud. If your music is on Spotify instead, there is a separate page for that.

Questions

Does audio actually play, or does it just load the page?

Audio plays. In our own live desktop testing a free public SoundCloud track streamed through TrickyBird’s own address and played in the tab with no extra setup. The stream arrives segment by segment through the proxy while you listen, so the song keeps going rather than cutting out once the page has loaded.

Does this work on a school or work Chromebook?

It runs in your browser with nothing to install, so it can work on a locked-down machine where a VPN app will not install. There is no admin permission to ask for and nothing you have to add to the browser. If the device can open a web page, it can open SoundCloud this way.

Do I need a SoundCloud account?

No. Public tracks, the home page, and search all open without signing in, and TrickyBird has no signup of its own. An account only matters if you want your own likes and playlists, and that is between you and SoundCloud, handled the normal way on their site.

Is it legal to unblock SoundCloud?

This is general information, not legal advice. Reaching a public site your network blocks is usually a matter of that network’s or your employer’s rules rather than the law, and those rules vary by place. Listen to free public tracks, and do not use TrickyBird to get around a paywall, a login, or copyright.
